MUSIC -- AND THE PEOPLE WHO MAKE IT --
CHANGE THE WORLD


Nappy, Innocent and Theophyle are the lead singers of FLAG OF PEACE, a boy band in Bujumbura, Burundi. Their dream is “that all guns will become guitars to play and all soldiers will become musicians.” They are the organizers of the Moses Fund Club, a group of young people like themselves, in Bujumbura who are working to make Burundi a better place. They collaborate with The Moses Kazibwe Memorial Fund for African Children here in Orange County. THE MOSES FUND, as it is also known, is a nonprofit, 501(C)(3) that has worked for the last two years on a grassroots level in Bujumbura, Burundi and Gisenyi, Rwanda to help children.

The way that comes most naturally for Nappy, Innocent and Theophile to do this work is through their music. Their songs already speak of the importance of caring for children, the need of all people for peace and the importance of changing behavior to survive HIV. One of their songs about loving children has already been featured on Bujumbura radio.

A RECORDING STUDIO FOR BUJUMBURA, BURUNDI

When Suba heard about FLAG OF PEACE and how important music is to them, he suggested THE MOSES FUND get in touch with Mike Warshaw who had already done the sound for a benefit performance Suba organized last year for THE MOSES FUND at the CLAREMONT FORUM. Sure enough Mike went to work downloading software and donating equipment to start a recording studio for FLAG OF PEACE and the MOSES FUND CLUB.

What Mike wants to do now is raise the money to go to Bujumbura himself and train Flag of Peace to do what they’ve been waiting all their life to do -- change the world through music.

When FLAG OF PEACE heard what Mike wants to do, they responded this way:

Once again thank you so much for this from us, The Mosesfundclub_buj and for all the burundian community. This studio and equipments will help us to record more songs and it will be the opportunity for us to explain to people around the world what we feel inside, what is going on in Africa and what we must do to make our lovely Africa be a good place to live. And if African people understand our messages (our dreams) and try to make 'em true no more africans will have a need to leave this Africa and go outside (Europe or America) to look for a good or easier life like we use to think.

We will talk about Peace and Love between brothers and sisters, peace in Africa and all over the world; we will talk about how to fight against AIDS and different diseases; we will talk about poverty and how to fight it and we'll talk about homeless children. How or what we can do to help them leave the streets, be like other educated children and build their own future.

In fact we have many many songs about our dreams for Africa but the time didn't authorize us yet to record 'em all and distribute to the whole and to the world in general. We do have some songs in our poor english that we pray for your coming and Mike will help us to correct them and write in rich english and in good words so people who is english speaker will understand what is in our dreams for our Africa.

The studio will help, as well, other young musician to contribute to the building of our Africa, in fact Burundi has many many talented musicians or singers who still miss money to record their songs and explain their good ideas. It will be the time for us to give them some little opportunities to record some singles.

The studio will help us (The mosesfund club) to get money and realize our projects and help some mothers who feed or keep orphans for creating some little business and get some money in order to feed those orphans and make them go to school (pay for them school fees) and have a good education.

Some people are separated from other because they have AIDS, they are driven out from daily works which feed their family; this is very sad so the money got from the studio will help them to create their own business even the capital may be little.

We told you that we have a plan to create The homeless or orphans Mosesfund football club so the studio will help them to buy football equipment and compete in some matches like others. As well we do have another plan like we told you that we want to create a homeless or orphans music club which will be called Flag of Peace Junior then those young singers in Flag of Peace junior who are orphans will record their own songs (or the songs that we shall compose for them) and tell people the truth of their life in streets and we hope they will get money from their cd and cassettes. The hope is that we all will get money from our songs because the future govenment promised to establish the copyright.

We have many things to tell you about our dreams but we can't finish them all. Tell Mike that we need and want to work with him we hope he will help us and make us better singers than we are now and we will be international singers like Stevie Wonder, The Boyz 2 men, Bob Marley and others.
